Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Medicine:
Herbal Medicine

Naturopathic Physicians are licensed by the state of Washington and may act as primary care providers or specialists.

Naturopathic Medicine uses natural agents to stimulate the body’s own innate powers of healing. The central philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine is to find and treat the cause of illness; and to empower and respect each patient’s individual journey of healing.

Wellness is attained and maintained using a broad range of therapeutic tools ranging from nutrition, exercise and lifestyle to prescriptions for vitamin and mineral supplements, herbal formulas, physical medicine, homeopathy, or even pharmaceutical preparations. The ultimate goal of naturopathic medicine is to achieve optimal health by the least invasive means possible.

Naturopathic physical medicine includes many modalities to help relieve symptoms of illness, pain, dysfunction, and imbalance. These may include injections with natural substances, exercises, muscle stretching, hydrotherapy, visceral and neural manipulation, cranial sacral theray and naturopathic manipulation.

Many of these incorporate gentle adjustments of the neuromuscular system like bones, ligaments, fascia and muscles using stretching, massage, and adjustments with a doctor’s hands or tool.

Examples:

  • Injection therapies use various combinations of substances to support the body's natural processes and aid in healing

  • Hydrotherapy uses applications of varied temperature water and muscle stimulation to support immune function, detoxification, nervous system, and gastrointestinal regulation.

  • Cranial adjustments and cranial sacral therapy are light touch manual therapies that focus on improving the structure of the body, in particular the central nervous system, and its surrounding structures.

  • Myofascial release, Visceral and neural manipulation are manual therapies that assess restrictions in structure and motion of the nerves, organs, fascia, and ligaments in relation to symptoms of illness and pain.

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture

Acupuncture treatments are an ancient method of healing that works through the stimulation of anatomical points on the body, usually by the insertion of extremely fine sterile needles at precise locations known as acupuncture points.

According to traditional Chinese medical theory, this enhances and balances the flow of the body’s energy or “qi” through a system of channels or meridians that traverse the body. While western scientists have a different view of how acupuncture works, the medical community now widely recognizes the efficacy of acupuncture for a growing list of ailments including nausea, low back pain, neck pain and headache.

Its true power encompasses every aspect of health. It is used by a third of the world’s population for a wide range of health conditions. Recently in the United States fertility clinics have found that it enhances fertility.

Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Herbal Medicine:

Chinese herbal medicine can be traced back over three thousand years in the written historical record.

While some of the herbs used are also found in Western herbalism, they are prescribed by significantly different methods.

First, the same principles of Chinese medicine that underlie effective acupuncture treatment are also used to guide the construction of Chinese herbal formulas.

Second, in Chinese herbal tradition, the herbs are almost never prescribed singly, but rather in balanced combinations in carefully designed formulas.

These herbal prescriptions are tailored to the individual patient. They reflect not only the individual properties of each herb but also how all of the herbs interact together and function in concert to produce the desired therapeutic result.

The elegance and sophistication of this system arises partly from the fact that it has been in continuous development in China for thousands of years, and also that it is still the subject of refinement today as a living discipline in China and around the world.

Homeopathic Medicine:
Homeopathy
Homeopathic Medicine Production

Homeopathic medicine has often been interchanged with naturopathic medicine. However, they are distinct from each other. Naturopathic physicians receive specific education and training to use homeopathic prescriptions of substances. Special laboratories exist to create the preparations and each single or combination prescription is tailored to the patient.

Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine that was conceptualized by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the 1700s. It follows the concept of minute doses of substances used to stimulate the healing capacities of the body. The dosage concept of the infinitesimally small dose is one of the basic principles of homeopathy. The Arndt-Schultz Law states that small doses of drugs encourage life activity, large doses impede life activity, and very large doses destroy life activity. Therefore, the function of the dose of the drug is inversely proportional to the effect of the drug. Apart from their therapeutic effectiveness, proper preparation of the minute homeopathic doses render even the most toxic substances safe and free of side effects.

Massage
Massage Therapy:
Acupressure Neck Massage

Massage is a hands-on therapy in which muscles and other soft tissues are manipulated to improve health and well-being. There are many different massage and bodywork techniques. Each technique is designed to achieve a specific goal.

Varieties of massage range from gentle kneading of muscles to deeper manual techniques. Your massage therapist will use a variety of these techniques depending on your needs and their training. The average session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.

In general, massage is believed to support healing, boost energy, reduce recovery time after an injury, reduce pain, and enhance relaxation, mood, and well-being. It is used to treat many musculoskeletal problems such as back pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, sprains, and strains.

At your first message session, your therapist will discuss your health history and your symptoms with you to get an idea of what treatments will be appropriate. The therapist leaves the room while you undress (you may choose to leave you undergarments on if it makes you feel more comfortable). You will then lie on the table under a sheet. The sheet will only be moved to expose the area of the body being worked on at the time. Your therapist will ask whether they are applying too much or too little pressure throughout the massage. You massage will usually last about one hour, but can be adjusted to suit your needs, and may include a schedule of follow-up visits depending on the severity of your situation.

Nutritional Counseling:

Nutritional counseling is an essential component to any healthcare regimen. While dietary recommendations are everywhere these days, it takes a trained professional to assist individuals in implementing realistic changes. By addressing personal philosophies about food, shopping and eating habits, barriers to change, and overall lifestyle concerns, nutritional counseling is able to encompass a broad approach to overall well-being.

Naturopathic doctors are specifically trained to translate the science of nutrition into practical dietary advice for healthy living. Emphasis is on total diet, overall eating patterns, and individual variations focusing on the treatment and prevention of illness.

The standard of nutritional care is based on a personal approach to diet and health rooted in food quality and self-care. Nutrition goals are achieved through various tools including diet diaries, nutrient intake analysis, personalized meal plans, nutrition all with an emphasis on whole foods.

Reiki
Reiki
Reiki Treatment

Reiki is a healing modality that has various types and lineages. Dr. Mikao Usui has been noted of its rediscovery in the early 1900s with origins in Japan. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”.  Reiki isn’t affiliated with a religion,  spiritual practice, or belief system. It is not considered massage as it is practice with a client clothed and the practitioner’s hands above or gently on specific areas of the body. Reiki is an effective form of energy work using the life force or vitality within all of us.  Each Reiki master is given attunements that allow them to deliver reiki to others - it’s like adding FM to an AM only radio receiver.

Many healing systems believe that a person’s life energy should be strong and free flowing resulting in a positive state of health. When the energy becomes weak or blocked it may lead to symptoms of physical, spiritual, or emotional imbalance. A Reiki session may facilitate an environment for healing by encouraging strength and flow on physical, mental, and emotional levels. Experiences during treatment vary from person to person with common feelings of peace, calm, warmth, and deep relaxation.
